Save the Date – IRSOIL&WATER 2026 & ERA Workshop, Bergamo, Italy, June 16-19, 2026

From June 16 – June 19, 2026, the historic city of Bergamo, Italy, will be hosting the European Radon Association’s (ERA) annual workshop (June 17) and IRSOIL&WATER 2026, a conference organized by ASSORADON (the Italian Association of Radon Professionals) and AIRP (the Italian Radiation Protection Association) which focuses on radon, natural radioactivity, and soil/water monitoring. Now in its sixth year, the event is aimed at laboratory technicians, environmental researchers, and industry professionals looking to discuss advances in measurement techniques and radon risk assessment.

ASSORADON is an Italian association focused on radon remediation, prevention, and mitigation in buildings. It works to promote professional growth in the field of radon protection and often collaborates with other organizations, such as AIRP, to address radon policies and technical solutions.

Highlights at the conference include:

  • The European Radon Association’s (ERA) annual workshop will feature international presentations on radon research and policy. The main theme this year is “State-of-the-art radon measurement techniques in air, water and soil.”
  • Field Exercises: On-site measurement exercises focusing on radon concentrations in soil and water, along with for the first time gamma spectrometry for radon risk assessment.
  • Scientific Conference (June 18-19): Technical sessions focused on national and local radon issues, including epidemiological aspects of radiation exposure.

Key Objectives at the conference include:

  • Inter-comparison: providing a platform for laboratories and professionals to discuss and compare measurement techniques and assessment approaches used in the industry.
  • Multidisciplinary Approach: encouraging participation from various fields to address radon’s complexity, including its health impacts and remediation strategies.
  • Professional Growth: aimed at both public and private dosimetry services, as well as professionals interested in the latest regulatory guidelines on building remediation and prevention.

José-Luis Gutiérrez Villanueva, Secretary of the ERA, said: “The ERA Workshop and IRSOIL&WATER 2026 are key platforms for addressing the critical issue of radon in our environment. As a naturally occurring radioactive gas with serious health implications, radon remains one of the most underestimated threats. These events provide an essential opportunity for scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders to come together, exchange knowledge, and develop actionable solutions to mitigate radon exposure and safeguard public health.”

The conference will be conducted in English and Italian, with translation services provided.

ERA welcomes membership applications from those who have an active interest in the field of radon
