Agenda Published for Radon Week in Warsaw, Poland

We are delighted to share the agenda for Radon Week. The conference is taking place in Warsaw, Poland, from 3-6 of November 2025. During the week delegates will have the opportunity to participate in the 2025 European Radon Association (ERA) Workshop and Radon Outcomes on Mitigation Solutions (ROOMS) 2025. On 3 November registration is open from 3PM-6PM in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Physics (75 Koszykowa St.), which is followed by welcome cocktails.

Per Nilsson, President of the ERA, said: “We are pleased with the exceptional calibre of presentations being delivered at this year’s Radon Week in Warsaw. The depth of expertise represented at the conference is truly outstanding. Participants will share both research findings and practical insights that underscore the critical importance of radon monitoring. This event is a valuable platform for collaboration, ensuring that radon risk remains a prominent issue on the public health agenda.”

The theme for the ERA Workshop this year is “Radon in Workplaces: from Awareness to Mitigation”. Taking place on 6 November, presentations include:

  • Radon in workplaces: regulation and national database in Italy” from Francesco Salvi.
  • Evaluation of the Belgian national radon action plan concerning building mitigation” from Boris Dehandschutter.
  • Mitigation cases from different mitigation techniques” from Per Nilsson.

On 5 November, between 3PM-5.30PM, the ERA will be holding its annual general assembly which will be followed by the presentation of the ERA’s awards, categories this year are Young Talent award, Recent Outstanding Research or Work in the Radon Field and Lifetime Achievement award.

ROOMS is an informal conference, taking place 4-5 November, at the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). Main sessions and the exhibition will be held in the Auditorium at Rektorska 4, 00-614 Warsaw, with registration and coffee breaks in the first-floor lobby. It aims to exchange ideas on how to mitigate radon levels and raise awareness of the impact radon exposure can have on people’s health. With over 15 presentations, topics covered include:

  • Lessons learned from remedial interventions involving sub-slab depressurization in two buildings of an Italian university campus.
  • Coordinated remediation interventions for asbestos removal and radon concentration reduction in a large multi-story building: a case study at an Italian university.
  • Toward Systematic Radon Mitigation in Slovenian Workplaces.
  • Adaptive Heat Recovery Ventilation for Radon Mitigation: Integrating Real-Time Monitoring and Dynamic Airflow Control.
  • Preliminary results for a study of durability of radon remedial measures in a sample of UK homes.
  • Recent findings on the impact of artificial ventilation on the radon concentration in Austrian mines.
  • Radon awareness, monitoring and mitigation through Citizen Science projects – the experience of the RadoNorm Citizen Science Incubator.
  • Will there be a revolution in radon monitoring?
  • Gradient Chamber for Measuring Radon and Thoron Exhalation Rates from Surfaces.
  • ARMS – an Affordable RADON Measurement System.
  • The RADIANT Project: Preliminary Approaches to Radon Assessment and Monitoring in Historic Heritage Buildings.
  • Radon in schools: from measurements to mitigation scenarios in Lower Silesia.
  • The assessment of natural radioactivity in geomaterials intended for civil engineering applications.

The ERA is a non- profit International Organisation registered under Belgian law (number 549.923.484). It has been formed to serve the interests of the European radon community.
